Maimonides Academy was founded in 1978 by three leaders of the Jewish community: Dr. Alvin Goldman, a well-known pediatrician, Mr. Abraham Golub, a veteran builder, and Mr. Cary Wellington, a man who had in the past helped found other Jewish Day Schools. The sophisticated curriculum, developed by Dr. Janet Kremenitzer, a distinguished expert in early and middle school child education, is designed to provide anexcellent general education program that is fully integrated with Jewish studies. The school quickly outgrew its initial space in the basement of a local synagogue, and moved to a larger interim space before settling into the facility at 103 Miry Brook Road in Danbury, in 1984. In 1995, the school added a new wing to accommodate its growing nursery and pre-kindergarten programs. From its birth with just 13 nursery school and kindergarten students, to its present size, Maimonides Academy has retained its emphasis on the growth and development of the individual child..
