History:

Maimonides Academy was founded in 1978 by three leaders of the Jewish community: Dr. Alvin Goldman-a well known pediatrician, Mr. Abe Golub- a veteran builder, and Mr. Cary Wellington- a man who had in the past helped found other Jewish Day Schools. The sophisticated curriculum was developed by Dr. Janet Kremenitzer who laid the educational foundation for the entire academic program. The aim was to provide an excellent general education program that would be fully integrated with Jewish studies. The school quickly outgrew its initial space, the basement of a local synagogue, moved to a larger space, and then moved again to its current facility on Miry Brook Road in Danbury in 1984. In 1995, the school added a wing to accommodate its growing nursery and pre-kindergarten program. From its start with 12 nursery school and kindergarten students, to its present size, the school has retained an emphasis on the growth and development of each child.
